CutlerMerz provides valuable insights at ARENA/AEMC Regulatory DEIP Dive
Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) gathered experts in the industry last month for a regulatory Distributed Energy Integration Program (DEIP) session.
In a forum of regulatory and technical specialists representing various stakeholders across the energy industry, CutlerMerz Principal consultant Melanie Koerner was invited to be on an expert panel to provide views on the issues around the allocation of distribution network capacity.
The transformation towards a decentralised electricity network with two-way flows was examined during the day, and the workshop aimed to inform the AEMC’s upcoming annual electricity network economic regulatory framework review through discussions on:
increasing DER penetration and impacts to the operation of distribution networks
regulatory frameworks and the need for them to adapt
allocation of distribution network capacity
knowledge gaps that need to be filled
Given the unique insights gained over our most recent involvement in shaping the Energy Networks Australia (ENA) National Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Connections guidelines, Melanie explained the various approaches adopted by distribution network services providers (DNSPs) to coordinate network capacity allocation. Moreover, the immediate impact of the ENA DER Connection Guidelines were discussed, given they will provide consistency and clarity for customers connecting DER across Australia.
