DER, what is it worth to you?

CutlerMerz and CSIRO have recently initiated a project for the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to quantify the value of distributed energy resources (DER) holistically.

Our work over the coming months will include:

  • Engaging with stakeholders to identify gaps and issues associated with current approaches and level of guidance on quantifying DER benefits

  • Developing a methodology and approach for valuing DER benefits which reflect stakeholder feedback and that are broadly accepted and supported by stakeholders

  • Providing a methodology or calculation tool for Networks to apply in valuing DER benefits which is practical, proportionate, repeatable, and capable of flexibly accommodating jurisdictional differences, market reforms, and differences in network visibility/data sources

  • Recommending the level of guidance that should be provided to Networks in quantifying DER benefits and guidance on how the methodology should be applied.

As an update, the recommendations and report are currently being drafted for public consultation to commence in September 2020.
